Vanda Ines | Project Coordinator – Mining

What does Inspire Inclusion mean to you?
It means working in an environment where each person is valued for their individuality and encouraging them to use their strengths in a way that not only uplifts them, it also boosts the culture and business of the company.

How do you feel your role at CE Group demonstrates the crucial role of achieving gender equality?
My role as Project Coordinator has me interacting with different business units, managers, supervisors and administrators who are all diverse in culture and personality.

What are your biggest challenges as a women in a male dominated space, and how do you overcome them?
My biggest challenge is not having the experience or knowledge they do in this industry, it puts me at a disadvantage. However my approach has always been to learn each individuals’
quirks, the way they like to work and their preferred way of communicating and to engage with them in this way. By also asking questions, encouraging opinions and taking time to get to know each person,  it builds trust, comradery and better working relationships.

What do you feel will help bridge the gap for women, and inspire inclusion in the construction space?
More knowledge and training in areas they want to learn more about, and having employers who encourage this. Networking is also a great way to mix with a diverse range of people and builds confidence and business relationships.

What do you love most about your role and the positive impact it has day-to-day?
I work with a great group of people, am learning a lot and I feel supported and acknowledged in the role I play in the company.

CE Group promotes gender equality and for me to be a female electrician among the males I am proud to work with them and learn from them.

What are your biggest challenges as a women in a male dominated space, and how do you overcome them?
My biggest challenge would be working with experienced male electricians, I overcome that by working twice as hard to prove that women are strong, and they are confident enough to work hard and prove it.

What do you feel will help bridge the gap for women, and inspire inclusion in the construction space?
Women in field must reach out and encourage others who are yet to be that women can be in male dominated workplace only if they are confident enough to work hard and prove it.

What do you love most about your role and the positive impact it has day-to-day?
As a female electrician that is now doing the QA works, I love my new role and what I am doing daily. I also learnt from my little mistakes during inspections and improve from them.
