Project Details

Primo’s new Wacol operation is set to be one of Australia’s largest facilities of its kind, covering a massive 38,000m². The facility will house a freezer, manufacturing, and distribution centre all under one roof. Stage 1 of the project, in particular, focused on the construction of the Freezer and Chiller Buildings.

However, the complexity of this large-scale project was heightened by the fast-tracked construction schedule, which put considerable pressure on both the design and installation of the electrical systems. As an experienced electrical industrial contractor, CE Group was tasked with developing an efficient electrical distribution system to meet the challenge of the dual-building layout. In addition, smart switchboard location planning, distributed control systems, and advanced drive technology were essential factors in ensuring the project’s success.

Furthermore, CE Group played a key role in designing and installing a sophisticated lighting control system for the -25°C environment in the freezer facility. This system included PIR detection and replaced traditional 400W HID high bay luminaires with energy-efficient 100W LED luminaires. Moreover, low-level beam detection was added for forklift activation, further enhancing operational efficiency. The system significantly increased lamp life by six times and delivered energy savings of around 60%, offering a payback period of just four years.

In addition to the lighting system, CE Group’s overall involvement extended to providing general light and power, communications and data, fire alarms, security, and access control systems. Each of these installations was carefully coordinated to meet the project’s demanding timeline while ensuring the highest standards of quality.

CE Group’s expertise as an electrical industrial contractor was crucial in overcoming the challenges posed by the project’s scale and complexity. Thanks to their innovative solutions and effective project management, CE Group contributed to the seamless execution of Stage 1. This success reinforces CE Group’s reputation as a reliable partner in delivering high-performance electrical services for large industrial projects like Primo’s new Wacol operation.
