APLNG Curtis Island Permanent Buildings
Curtis Island, Queensland

Project Details

CE Group, an experienced electrical mining contractor, was contracted by Leighton Contractors to deliver electrical services for 10 permanent buildings at the Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) project. This was our first major collaboration with Leighton Contractors, and it involved working on critical facilities such as the Main Control Admin Facility, Marine Terminal Building, Fire Station Medical Facility, Compressor Control 1, Compressor Control 2, Maintenance/Lab Workshop, Warehouse, Dangerous Goods Store, Waste Storage, and Marine Guard House.

Each of these facilities had specific requirements set by Bechtel, making it essential for all teams to meet high operational and safety standards. Moreover, Leighton Contractors and their subcontractors, including CE Group, had to coordinate this extensive scope of work safely alongside 4,500 other tradespeople on-site. Consequently, the careful management of these concurrent activities was handled professionally and, importantly, without incident.

During the 11-month construction period, CE Group was also called upon to undertake additional scopes of work. This included the assembly and installation of the site’s main switchboards, which were crucial for the smooth functioning of the entire facility. Furthermore, we were tasked with laying 18 kilometers of SWA underground cables, which weighed approximately 60 tonnes. This added responsibility further showcased CE Group’s capacity to deliver large-scale electrical infrastructure on time and with precision.

In addition to meeting deadlines, the project emphasized our commitment to maintaining stringent safety standards and operational excellence. The successful completion of this project cemented CE Group’s reputation as a reliable electrical mining contractor capable of handling complex and challenging scopes within high-pressure environments. As a result, the collaboration with Leighton Contractors was seen as a significant milestone for both companies.
