Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) Stacker Project
Goonyella Riverside Mine, Moranbah, QLD

Project Details

Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, a critical part of Queensland’s coal export infrastructure, is undergoing a significant upgrade to sustain its operational efficiency. As part of this effort, the terminal is replacing its existing rail-mounted stacker machine (ST1) with a newly designed Stacker (ST1A). This upgrade is essential to improve the terminal’s capacity and enhance its long-term reliability.

The new Stacker ST1A will be installed on the existing Bund 3, which means it will utilise the current rail, bund conveyor, power, and water infrastructure that ST1 relied on. As a leading electrical mining contractor, CE Group has been entrusted with several critical tasks to ensure the successful installation of this new equipment.

Among the key responsibilities, CE Group is handling the supply and installation of aluminium cable ladders, which are essential for supporting the infrastructure. In addition, the team will be supplying, installing, terminating, and testing all cables, including high-voltage (HV) cables and fibre optics. The expertise required to manage such installations is significant, but CE Group’s extensive experience as an electrical mining contractor makes them well-equipped to handle the project.

Further, CE Group will be responsible for the supply, installation, and termination of machine cables, all of which are flexible EPR-type cables. Moreover, the project involves the installation of a new switchroom and all related electrical and instrumentation equipment, ensuring the system operates smoothly and safely. The team will also be installing light poles, luminaires, and small power outlets to maintain operational efficiency across the terminal.

CE Group’s role also extends to providing necessary documentation, such as MDR (Manufacturer’s Data Reports) and redline as-built drawings, which are essential for compliance and future maintenance. Additionally, the company will conduct a minor Hazardous Area (HA) audit to ensure that all installations meet safety standards, particularly around sensitive areas like transition chutes.

One unique aspect of the project includes the supply and installation of a mast lightning finial and earth shoes, which will protect the equipment from potential electrical surges. Once the new ST1A is fully operational, the existing ST1 will be disassembled and removed by other contractors, following the successful commissioning of ST1A.

With the new stacker’s design capacity at 6,300 tonnes per hour (tph) and the ability to upgrade to 8,100 tph with minimal modifications, this upgrade will significantly enhance the terminal’s overall capacity. Through its detailed and professional approach, CE Group continues to demonstrate its expertise as an electrical mining contractor, delivering high-quality services that ensure the success of large-scale infrastructure projects like this one.
