Project Details
CE Group, a leading electrical mining contractor, is proud to have been involved in the Tallawarra Stage B project. This 300+ MW expansion is part of the existing Tallawarra A power station and features the construction of a 420MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant. The project is a significant milestone as it introduces Australia’s first peaking power station powered by a blend of green hydrogen and natural gas.
CE Group’s scope of work included the installation of a high voltage switchyard, the construction of an unloading station, and a distillate tank. Additionally, the team was responsible for connecting gas pipelines, gas receiving and conditioning stations, and transformers, as well as installing switchgear. Other critical facilities included a new control room and an administration building, all essential for the seamless operation of the new power station.
With the first-of-its-kind hydrogen and natural gas power plant, CE Group’s expertise was essential in ensuring the successful completion of specialised HV works. The complex nature of the project demanded precision, advanced technology integration, and robust collaboration. CE Group was able to meet these demands by utilizing a local workforce and implementing innovative approaches throughout the construction phase.
To ensure smooth execution, CE Group worked closely with all stakeholders, overcoming technical challenges and maintaining safety protocols on site. The team’s extensive experience in handling high-voltage systems and electrical infrastructure was invaluable, particularly given the novel hydrogen integration. The construction of the 420MW Open Cycle Gas Turbine and switchyard was completed efficiently, thanks to their attention to detail and adherence to timelines.
CE Group’s role in the Tallawarra Stage B project showcases its ability as an electrical mining contractor to deliver large-scale infrastructure works with a focus on renewable energy solutions. The successful completion of this landmark project further cements CE Group’s reputation in the power generation sector.
